Former Miss Universe queens Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta expressed their support for Harnaaz Sandhu after she brought back the crown to India after 21 years.

In an Instagram post on Monday night, Dec. 13, Dutta said Sandhu is destined to be crowned as Miss Universe 2021 since she was born on the year of her coronation. Dutta was named Miss Universe in 2000.

“You had an unshakeable belief in yourself and JUST KNEW, you were born for this!! You were born in the year I won Miss Universe!!! That’s how long we’ve waited for you to come along and lift that crown once more for India!! Perhaps, it was destined,” Dutta said.

Dutta also revealed that Sandhu spoke to her before the Miss Universe 2021 coronation night. “When I spoke to you yesterday, you promised me that ‘it will be worth it!! YOU are worth all your triumphant glory and much, much more!”

The beauty queen-turned-actress also praised the Miss Universe titleholder on Twitter.

On the other hand, Sen thanked Sandhu for “representing India so beautifully” and noted her win was “destined” since she was crowned at 21 years old.

“May you enjoy every moment of learning & sharing this incredible global platform @missuniverse will provide you….MAY YOU REIGN SUPREME,” Sen said.

Dutta bested 78 other contestants and was crowned Miss Universe 2000 in Cyprus. She also held the title of Miss Intercontinental 1997.

In a report from India Today, Dutta also made history by receiving an almost perfect score of 9.99 when she competed in the Miss Univers pageant.

Meanwhile, Sen was crowned as Miss Universe in 1994 at the PICC Plenary Hall in Pasay City. She also caught the attention of pageant fans with her impactful final answer to the question: What for you is the essence of being a woman?
