What are the lucky colors that would attract wealth, fortune, stability this Year of the Water Tiger?
Color authority Pantone has encapsulated 2022 in Very Peri, while paint giant Sherwin-Williams has visualized the year as Evergreen Fog. Many individuals across the world have almost automatically conformed to the companies' choices, upgrading their respective wardrobes and amping their interiors with the handpicked shades. But there are other particular colors that must come into play in hopes of having a prosperous year ahead, at least to feng shui experts.
According to Chinese astrology, 2022 will be the Year of the Water Tiger, a creature that signifies ambition and competitiveness, as well as vulnerability and impulsiveness.
As for the water aspect, which is one of the five Chinese elements—the others being metal, wood, fire, and earth—it symbolizes flow, stillness, and abundance.
Feng shui queen Marites Allen, who boasts of over two decades of practice, told PhilSTAR L!fe that one should invest in items that have shades of black, gray, or blue, as these colors are associated with wealth, which is what the water element represents.
"Use these colors to enhance wealth potential, improve business profits, and increase income through work," said Allen, whose clientele hails not only from the Philippines but also from Japan, the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Sweden, among many others.
The Filipino-British feng shui queen, however, warned that since there's sufficient water element in the annual paht chee or destiny chart, one must not use a color more than what's needed.
For instance, an all-black outfit must be complemented with a bag, belt, or shawl in a different color.
With the absence of fire element in this year's paht chee chart, Allen said red-, pink-, and purple-colored items are very much welcome to attract cosmic support and favorable prospects.
One may also want to consider white, silver, and gold colors, as metal is also a missing element this 2022.
"Metal represents focus, logic, and decisiveness," Allen said, "which help in setting up and implementing plans and important projects or cutting through life’s complications."
Allen also took note that yellow is an important color for 2022, as the Year of the Water Tiger has indications of strained relationships, separation, and division.
"This earth color (yellow) stands for stability, helpful alliances and social networks," she said. "It helps one to stay grounded and be surrounded by people who are willing to help during difficult times."
Allen also previously shared with PhilSTAR L!fe specific lucky colors per zodiac sign:
- Rat - gold, yellow lemon, white
- Ox - yellow, ivory, orange
- Tiger - apple green, bronze, white
- Rabbit - green, yellow, pink, fuchsia
- Dragon - ruby red, light green, gray
- Snake - honey yellow, moss green
- Horse - malachite green, white, silver
- Sheep - pink, fuchsia, gray, white, ivory
- Monkey - white, yellow, pink
- Rooster - yellow, blue, white
- Dog - blue, brown, yellow
- Boar/Pig - yellow orange, bright red, lime green
Ultimately, Allen reminded the public that one need not chase rainbows in selecting their lucky shades.
"Again, the rule of thumb is to NOT overdo the use of any of these colors," she said. "Balance is key."
