Heart Evangelista admits that she auditioned for ‘Crazy Rich Asians’

Heart Evangelista has always been rumored to be casted for Kevin Kwan's Crazy Rich Asians—and we totally get why! She’s dubbed as one of the “real crazy rich Asians” in a magazine feature and she’s friends with Kwan. But the question is: Did Evangelista really try out for the film?

“I actually did audition talaga,” Evangelista told Dr. Aivee Teo during a one-on-one interview for the dermatologist’s vlog. “They were already in the last leg of their auditions. And I got a call. And I was like, ‘You know, sige na, might as well do it na,’” Evangelista added.

Evangelista auditioned for the role of Aramintha Lee, an heiress and the wife of Colin Yoo, Nick Young’s best friend.

The 36-year-old actress recalled that time saying she produced the demo tape in the Philippines along with a crew, and recreated the given script like a real scene in a telenovela.

One morning, however, she woke up to 10 missed calls from the agent from LA, who told her that her video paused in the middle of the presentation and asked her if she could resend another file. After which, they asked if Evangelista was available to do the shoot.

“They never came back,” Evangelista revealed. The role was given to actress Sonoya Mizuno.

Though it was tough, the actress is still thankful saying that everything happens for a reason. “For me, that’s huge coz I’ve been working for 24 years, tapos ngayon lang ako nagka opportunity.”

Last December 2020, Evangelista was again rumored to be playing the role of fashion blogger and heiress Colette Bing for the sequel: Crazy Rich Girlfriend. Other actresses who were reported to be trying out for the same role were also mentioned: Lana Condor (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) and Hannah Quinlivan (Skyscraper).

Without denying or confirming, Kwan reshared the article by Vogue, captioning it: “A fun bit of speculation from our friends at Vogue…."
