P60 wage hike in NCR takes effect
The P60 wage hike for minimum wage workers has officially taken effect on Sept. 26, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.
In a press release, the agency announced the implementation of Wage Order No. NCR-28, which covers around 1.1 million minimum wage earners in Metro Manila.
Under the order, the starting wage for non-agricultural workers in the region rises from P695 to P755 per day.
Those working in agriculture, small retail and service establishments employing 15 workers or less, and small manufacturing companies regularly employing fewer than ten workers, meanwhile, will see an increase to P718 per day from P658.
DOLE Sec. Francis Tolentino has also urged employers to strictly comply with the new rates, effective on Saturday.
He added that the wage order follows the established tripartite wage-setting process by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-NCR.
“Dito natin naipakita ang kabuluhan ng isang tripartite mechanism kung saan ang pamahalaan, ang employers’ groups, at ang employees’ groups ay nagkakaisa para isulong at iangat ang dangal ng manggagawang Pilipino at maipakita rin na sa pagkakaisang ito ay makapagsulong ng isang sustainable economy dito sa NCR,” Tolentino said in a statement.
Before this, DOLE sought a P85 increase for daily minimum wage—the largest single wage hike—in June. However, Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 162 suspended its implementation; the reason was not disclosed.
