P85 NCR minimum wage hike on hold
The Pasig Regional Trial Court has suspended the implementation of the P85 minimum wage hike in NCR on Thursday, July 30.
As reported by The Philippine STAR, Pasig RTC Branch 152 Judge Marie Joyce Manongsong issued a temporary restraining order on Wage Order No. 27 issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-National Capital Region, in response to the petitions of construction firms Readycon Trading and Construction Corporation and R-II Builders Inc.
The reason for the suspension was not disclosed.
Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Francis Tolentino expressed his dismay at the news in a statement.
"Malungkot ako para sa mga manggagawa pero susunod tayo sa utos ng husgado," he said. "Kung anuman ang naging basehan ng husgado ng paglalabas ng TRO, hayaan na po natin na sila ang magpaliwanag."
On June 30, Tolentino announced the P85 wage hike that marked the largest single wage increase ever granted to Metro Manila minimum wage earners. He said it's expected to benefit 1.1 million daily wage earners in NCR.
The first tranche of the wage hike, which raises the daily minimum wage to P60, took effect this month, with the additional P25 set to be released on Jan. 20, 2027.
