In a report by Deadline, the adaptation of the Crane-Iron Pentalogy book series by Wang Dulu will be developed by Prime Video, with Jason Ning serving as writer and executive producer.

Joining him as showrunners are Ron Moore, Maril Davis of Tall Ship Productions, Johnny Levin and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and Hong Wang and Qin Wang of the Wang Dulu Estate.

According to the news outlet, the upcoming drama will feature "stunning landscapes and spectacular action."

It will follow two star-crossed warriors, Shu Lien and Mu Bai, "struggle between forbidden love and the pull of modernity—caught between preserving their way of life or embracing a future together."

The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the fourth book of the Chinese novel series serialized between 1938 and 1942. The other books in the series are Crane Startles Kunlun, Precious Sword, Golden Hairpin, Sword Force, Pearl Shine, and Iron Knight, Silver Vase.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was previously adapted for the big screen in 2000 by Taiwanese filmmaker Ang Lee. It starred Chow Yun-fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi, and Chang Chen.

The film was applauded by critics and has since been cited as one of the greatest wuxia films ever made. It won over 40 awards and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 2001, including Best Picture, and won Best Foreign Language Film, Best Art Direction, Best Original Score, and Best Cinematography.
