'Maalaala Mo Kaya' to return on April 24 as limited series
The beloved ABS-CBN program Maalaala Mo Kaya is returning on April 24, host Charo Santos said.
In a video posted on the network's social media pages, Santos shared the news about the show's comeback.
"Dear Charo," she said in the video. "Namiss kong sabihin ang line na yan at na miss ko rin kayo."
"Malapit na tayong magkasama muli. Maraming maganda at nakaka-inspire na kwentong MMK ang aming inihanda. Bagong kwento na talagang makaka-relate kayo. Iba naman kasi ang totoong kwento diba," she continued.
Santos also made the announcement last Friday at the ABS-CBN Ball, saying that a limited series of the drama anthology will be shown on iWantTFC, and will become available after 48 hours on A2Z, Kapamilya Online (Live), and Kapamilya Channel.
"After two years, Maalaala Mo Kaya is back and it will share the beautiful stories of our letter senders, of our Kapamilyas," she said, as reported by ABS-CBN News.
"In my heart, I knew that one day babalik siya. Because the loyal viewers and the new generation of viewers are looking forward to watching the true-to-life stories of our Kapamilyas. Ang daming Gen Z na lumaki na nanonood ng MMK kasama ang kanilang mommies and daddies, lolas and lolos. I'm so happy that they know MMK is a brand of good storytelling."
Santos also said that the first few episodes have been set, with the pilot focusing on Sofronio Vasquez, the first Asian winner of The Voice USA, and another episode dedicated to the popular P-pop girl group BINI. She added that Elijah Canlas will portray as Vasquez.
MMK first aired on ABS-CBN in 1991, “dramatizing real-life stories as shared by letter senders.” According to the network, “its success saw the title expand as a radio drama, a 1994 movie, and a comic book adaptation, among others, with its regular weekend run making a mark on pop culture.”
Three decades later, Santos, who served as the host of Asia’s longest-running drama anthology, announced on Nov. 21, 2022 that the is coming to an end.
“Kami po ay tagapaghatid lang ng mga kuwento. Kung mauulit man ang lahat, hindi po ako magdadalawang-isip na piliing muli ang role na ito. Kulang po ang tatlumpu’t isang taon para magpasalamat sa inyo,” she said.
