'Drag Race Philippines' Season 4 contestant Misua dies at 27
Misua, a contestant in the upcoming Drag Race Philippines Season 4, has died. She was 27.
"We are heartbroken to share that Misua, a talented Queen set to appear on season 4 of Drag Race Philippines passed away in her sleep the morning of April 2," confirmed Drag Race Philippines co-producer World of Wonder and Drag Race PH in a joint statement on April 3.
"She brought light, artistry, and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed," the statement continued.
A cause of death was not shared.
The production studio said it has paused production of season 4, which had just started filming, to support its cast and crew.
"Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who loved her," the statement read.
Per Variety, Misua, whose legal name was Jason Elvie Ty, hailed from Cagayan de Oro. She worked as a graphic designer and performer, famous for her do-it-yourself approach to drag. According to her bio obtained by Variety, Misua created every bit of her drag appearance.
Numerous outfits in the drag community paid tribute to Misua on social media, including Drag Scene PH and Drag Fans Philippines. She was known throughout the Filipino drag community as a beloved creative who was deeply passionate about sharing her artistry and love for fashion with like-minded individuals.
