Liza Soberano on what she didn't like about her film 'My Ex and Whys'

Liza Soberano looked back on her 2017 romantic comedy film My Ex and Whys and opened up about some aspects of the movie that she did not particularly like.

During her guest appearance on the TigerBelly podcast, the actress was asked about her past work starring in romantic comedy movies as the hosts pulled up a poster of My Ex and Whys, which she co-starred in with former reel-to-real partner Enrique Gil.

To recall, the film centers on Cali, a blogger who writes about relationships and heartbreak, and her ex-boyfriend Gio, a notorious womanizer who tries to win her back and prove that he has changed.

Reflecting on the film, Soberano admitted that while it has a great story, she realized that she didn't like how it has some misogynistic undertones.

"My character gets cheated on, basically. And then she becomes a popular blogger because she writes about all the f***k-ups that happened in their relationship," she said.

"And then later on, people started hating on her for being such a man-hater. And then she gets canceled, and so she's now trying to make up with her ex so that she can prove to everyone that they're okay," she added.

When the hosts pointed to Gil's picture on the poster, Soberano shared that he is actually her ex-boyfriend in real life, much to their amusement.

"I love him as a human being," she said of Gil, but added that they no longer talk after parting ways.

The pair, popularly known as LizQuen, first rose to fame as an onscreen tandem in 2014, when they starred in the ABS-CBN romantic drama series Forevermore. Their chemistry proved popular among viewers, leading them to headline several television shows and films.

Their onscreen partnership eventually blossomed into a real-life romance, as they began dating in 2014,

However, after nearly eight years together, Soberano confirmed in August 2025 that they had broken up almost three years earlier. She explained that their breakup was amicable and said that they had simply grown apart.
