During his speech, Efron got emotional and talked about his late friend, Matthew Perry.

"I really also want to mention someone that’s not here today, and that’s Matthew Perry, who was so kind and generous with me when we were working on 17 Again," Efron said.

Perry died on October 28 at the age of 54. Efron played the younger version of Perry's character in the 2009 movie.

"Collaborating with him and [director Burr Steers], it was so much fun, and it really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career. Thank you so much, Matthew. Thinking about you a lot today." he added.

Efron's upcoming role is portraying Kevin Von Erich in the movie 'The Iron Claw,' which revolves around the true-life story of the Von Erich brothers.
