3.8 million Filipinos are unemployed—here are apps that can help you find a job in the ‘new normal’

The latest data provided by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) shows that the unemployment rate in the Philippines is at 8.7% as of October, with about 3.8 million jobless Filipinos.

The highest unemployment rate comes from the National Capital Region (NCR) at 12.4%. The lowest, meanwhile, was noted at the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) at 3.4%.

It can be recalled that a 17.7% (7.2 million) unemployment rate was recorded in April, a month after the government imposed enhanced community quarantines in different parts of Luzon in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19. In July, the unemployment rate was at 10% (4.6 million).

At present, many are making use of job-searching apps to look for new opportunities and meet their needs. JobStreet, for one, has continued to provide job opportunities across Asia—particularly Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Familiar with LiNa? On a regular basis, the AI assistant notifies users about job matches via its website, app, or e-mail.

The good thing about LinkedIn is the connections that you can build with possible employers and business partners on the platform. Just input the job role and company that you hope to be a part of, and then you’ll see the appropriate contacts you can send your CV to and connect with them.

Indeed is also here to provide free access to millions of job openings across the globe. You can simply type your preferred job and company in the search bar—additionally, if desired, the app can show the available jobs near you.

Perfect for those who are self-employed, UpWork has been a popular site for freelancers in search of new gigs and projects. Make your portfolio stand out and you’d be able to connect with various agencies and generate another source of income.

The newest app is LapitJobs, which was introduced by APPscape. It's “designed to fit the employment procedure for the new normal lifestyle.” Through various technologies and advancements, you can conveniently find a job you’ll love. It also allows you to turn on your location and check out jobs near you as well as their type, net pay or estimated salary, and the Quality of Life Factor Score that “will let you know your estimated Job Satisfaction by taking into consideration the distance and the salary if you were to proceed with the job position.”
