Indian man hasn’t put his arm down for 10 years—here’s why

An Indian man has been keeping his right arm up for 10 years now, and counting.

He recently became a hot topic on discussion site Reddit for his unusual act, which he associated with his religion. The man said that he hasn’t put his arm down for a decade to honor his God and make him stand out among his fellow believers.

It’s been a common thing in his daily life that he no longer notices his raised arm, even when he’s sleeping. While it now feels numb, he doesn’t have a problem with it at all as he’s still able to accomplish various chores and tasks with his left arm.

Until when is he planning to do this? His answer—for the rest of his life.

Redditors had mixed reactions to the man’s decision. While some admired him for his dedication to God, others went ahead and questioned it.

“Extremely impressive. But why? Is this part of a religion I’m not familiar with or did he just think ‘arm up for 10 years? God’ll like that, I reckon’?” a netizen wrote in the thread.

Another one pointed out that steady acts like such have been known to cause frozen shoulder, which “involves pain and stiffness that develops gradually, gets worse, and then finally goes away.” It could last for up to three years, according to health website WebMD.

A Redditor said: “To even make it that long… I couldn’t keep mine up an hour, even if you paid me.”

Some also poked fun at his move. An Internet user joked that the Indian man has probably put his right arm down for a second, to which another netizen replied: “When God looks away only.”

This isnt' the first case of extreme arm raising. A report by Unilad recounts that another man named Amar Bharati has been raising his hand for more than 45 years to dedicate his entire life to Shiva, a Hindu deity.
