The world of Nevermore Academy is expanding.

Entertainment outlet Variety reports that Netflix has cast veteran actor Steve Buscemi to star in the second season of Wednesday

While details about who the Reservoir Dogs actor will be playing are still sparse, sources told Variety that he will play the new principal of Nevermore Academy.

In the first season of the series, the school's principal was Larissa Weems played by Gwendoline Christie. However, she dies at the end of the first season at the hands of villain Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci).

Buscemi is an acclaimed character actor who has starred in Parting Glances, In the Soup, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, and more.

What we know about Wednesday season 2

Other details about the hit show's season 2 are also still being kept under wraps but Jenna Ortega will still return as the titular character. She also said that the upcoming season will ditch the love triangle storyline and focus more on the horror aspect.

"It's still coming together, but we've decided we want to lean into the horror more. Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires, and werewolves and superpowers, you don't want to take yourself too seriously. We're ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great. We're going to get bolder, more dark," she previously said.

As for cast members who'll return, Wednesday creators Al Gough and Miles Millar previously told Hollywood Reporter they would like to explore the character's bond with her mother Morticia Addams and roommate Enid Sinclair, so Catherine Zeta-Jones and Emmya Myers will likely reprise their roles.

The rest of the Addams family will also possibly return, including Luis Guzmán who played Wednesday's dad Gomez, Isaac Ordonez who plays brother Pugsley, George Burcea who plays their butler Lurch, and Fred Armisen who plays Uncle Fester.

During Netflix's 2023 Tudum fan event in Brazil, Jenna, Emma, and the rest of the cast also teased that there will be a new member of the Addams family in season 2.

Wednesday is one of Netflix's biggest hit titles, breaking records for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language TV series on the streamer, with 341.23 million hours in its debut and 411.29 million hours in its second week. It first streamed on Netflix in November 2022.

The second season was set to start production in Ireland by April 2024.
