Loved Uncle Fester on Wednesday? Here's some good news: You can see more of him soon!
Entertainment outlet Variety confirmed on Monday, Dec. 18 that a Wednesday spin-off is currently in the works at Netflix, saying it will focus on Uncle Fester, who was portrayed by comedian Fred Armisen in the hit series.
Bloomberg first dropped the news on Sunday, Dec. 17. It noted that the storyline as well as schedule alignments and contract negotiations with talents are yet to be done.
Armisen’s Uncle Fester made a special appearance on the seventh episode of the series If You Don’t Woe Me by Now. He paid a visit to her gothic and feisty niece Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega.
Before the hit series, Jackie Coogan portrayed Uncle Fester in the original Addams Family series. It was also portrayed by Christopher Lloyd in the two feature films in 1991 and 1993.
Armisen is known for his roles in comedic sketches on Saturday Night Live and Portlandia. He also made appearances in films and series Easy A, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, History of the World, Part 2, Unstable, and Moonbase 8 among others. He co-created and starred in the Spanish comedy-horror series Los Espookys.
The second season of Wednesday, meanwhile, will reportedly start its production in April 2024. More details, including the cast and release date, are yet to be revealed.
The storyline of the next installment is also still under wraps, but Ortega teased that it would show more horror and less romance this time.
“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more, because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously,” she said.
