Miss World PH 2021 memes and reactions: Fans award the over 6-hour coronation night with the ‘longest-running pageant’ title

The journey to Miss World Philippines 2021 has been a long one—not only was it postponed five times, but the coronation night was a lengthy six-hour show. At the end of it, Cebu’s Tracy Maureen Perez was crowned Miss World PH 2021. She might have fallen twice during the show but that was the least meme-able moment of the night.

As the pageant commenced, fans posted their share of memes and reactions on different parts of the night, from joking about how long the event was taking to applauding how the candidates spoke during the Q&A portion.

The show started streaming on KTX.ph past 7 p.m. and concluded past 1:30 a.m. Throughout the show, special awards were given to standout candidates, and fans also jokingly gave the broadcast special awards of its own: the "longest-running pageant in history" and "best in sponsors" as they noted how it was riddled with commercials.

Hot Q&A topics

Filipinos online had a lot to say about the Q&A portion of the night. They cheered on Candidate #10 Michelle Arceo who was asked if she would rather pick a world without the pandemic or without corruption.

I would pick a world without corruption because we are surrounded by it every day, everywhere we look. People every day suffer from it, and if we can eradicate that, we can solve so many problems and we can get through a pandemic easily the next time we go about it,” Arceo answered. She went on to win Miss Environment Philippines 2021 later in the night.

In regards to this answer, netizens noted the presence of Sen. Bong Revilla who was accused of involvement in the P10-billion pork barrel scam exposed in 2013. However, his name was cleared in the criminal cases related to plunder by Sandiganbayan in July this year.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque drew ire from some netizens with his question asking if it was okay for a woman to run for president even if it meant sacrificing time with her children.

An outpouring of concern

Concern towards crowned queen Perez also spread after she tripped twice. Fans were saying how the lengthy show could have left her—and other candidates—wiped out.

They also applauded Miss Eco Teen Philippines 2021 winner Tatyana Alexi Austria who was caught onscreen trying to help Perez get up.

Meanwhile, others made jokes about their long hours of standing in high heels.

Perez is the latest Cebuana to win a crown, following Beatrice Luigi Gomez's Miss Universe win on Sept. 30.

Another Cebuana, Shaila Mae Rebotera, was also crowned Miss Multinational Philippines 2021.
