Other than new shows and movies, Disney is treating its fans to an out-of-this-world experience. At Tokyo Disneyland, a familiar attraction is set to return with Space Mountain Earthrise, taking fans on an immersive journey through the cosmos.

Originally announced in 2022, Space Mountain Earthrise is finally moving closer to reality, bringing a fresh take on one of Disney’s most iconic attractions.

The upcoming experience was highlighted during the Experience Showcase at D23. Set within a reimagined Tomorrowland, the attraction will blend the thrill of Space Mountain with a celebration of our planet and a vision for the future.

A Tomorrowland staple since Tokyo Disneyland first opened, Space Mountain Earthrise will retain the original attraction’s signature indoor roller coaster experience, sending guests racing through outer space while introducing enhanced ride performance and immersive special effects.

Per the Disney Tourist Blog, Space Mountain will return with a new story, upgraded features, and dynamic show elements for an even more thrilling and captivating journey among the stars.

The attraction will be situated at the back of Tomorrowland Plaza, a new courtyard designed as a symbolic space where humanity and nature coexist in harmony. The plaza will also serve as the heart of the reimagined Tomorrowland, connecting its past with its future.

According to Disney Tourist Blog, the attraction's signature indoor roller coaster format will be upgraded with enhanced effects, lighting, and sound to make the trip through space even more immersive. The ride will begin with a powerful launch from Earth before taking guests on a fast-paced journey through the cosmos.

For the first time at Tokyo Disney Resort, the ride vehicles will also feature an onboard audio system. The attraction’s exterior will have flowing, curved designs inspired by celestial bodies and elements of nature, reflecting the connection between space and the natural world.

Unique to Tokyo Disneyland, Space Mountain Earthrise will become the most expensive attraction Disney Imagineering has ever built when it opens in 2027.

The attraction first opened at Tokyo Disneyland in 1983 and was closed for a revamp in July 2024.

Other than this, fans can also look forward to stepping straight into the sugary world of Wreck-It Ralph with "Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue." The new attraction will bring Ralph and Vanellope’s video game world to life, as guests join them on a mission to restore mischievous sugar bugs to their original forms while trying to outrun King Candy.

There will also be the Pixel Prism, a gift shop offering attraction-inspired merchandise, and Popping Station, a popcorn stand facing Tomorrowland Plaza.

The new area is set to open in Spring 2027.
