'Tangled' live-action, X-Men cast, 'Avengers: Doomsday' new trailer, and more exciting shows revealed at D23 2026
It’s a great time to be a Disney fan, with plenty to look forward to in the months and years ahead—from live-action adaptations to highly anticipated new installments.
Back in Anaheim, California, the ultimate Disney fan fest offered a first look at what’s in store, as filmmakers and executives from Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and more took the stage to preview upcoming films and TV shows.
Here’s a rundown of some of the biggest projects unveiled at this year's D23 Expo.
The Incredibles 3
Pixar’s superpowered family is back. The studio has unveiled the first look at Incredibles 3, treating fans a preview of the Parr family's return ahead of its 2028 theatrical release.
The third film brings back Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack, with writer-director Brad Bird confirming that there will be no time jump, keeping the Parr kids at the same ages.
The story picks up after superheroes regained their legal status at the end of Incredibles 2. Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter return as Bob and Helen Parr, alongside Sarah Vowell as Violet, Huck Milner as Dash and Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone.
Star Wars: Starfighters
Film director Shawn Levy and the film's main star, Ryan Gosling, took the stage at D23 to share a closer look at Star Wars: Starfighter, which hits theaters on May 28, 2027.
Footage shown at D23 introduced Gosling as pilot Kade Auberon, who comes across a young man with a decommissioned starfighter once considered the fastest ever built. After getting the ship running again, Kade takes flight across alien worlds, dodging attacks from droids with help from his robot copilot.
Disney and Lucasfilm are keeping plot details under wraps, but according to Variety, Starfighter will be the first film to follow 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker and will tell a standalone story with new characters.
X-Men reboot
The cast of the X-Men reboot was officially unveiled at D23, following the reveal that Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Sink will star alongside Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will take on the villainous role of Mister Sinister.
The film is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
Tangled live-action
D23 attendees were treated to a first look at Disney’s live-action Tangled, with Teagan Croft taking on the role of Rapunzel and Milo Manheim playing Flynn Rider.
The first footage was screened exclusively during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at the fan event in Anaheim. Based on the same Brothers Grimm fairytale as the 2010 animated film, the story follows Rapunzel, a princess with magical long hair who has spent years confined to a secluded tower before crossing paths with fugitive thief Flynn Rider.
Kathryn Hahn plays the villainous Mother Gothel, while Diego Luna joins the cast in a new role. Patrick and Hugo McPherson will portray the Stabbington brothers, a pair of twin villains.
The film is scheduled for release on March 31, 2028.
Kingdom Hearts anime series
A new anime series inspired by the popular Kingdom Hearts video game franchise is officially in the works for Disney+ and Disney Channel.
The project, developed with franchise creator Tetsuya Nomura and game developer Square Enix, will tell an original story set in the Kingdom Hearts universe. Disney said the series will offer a fresh take on the beloved adventure while bringing back the characters fans have come to know and love.
Ice Age: Boiling Point
Ice Age: Boiling Point will bring Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat and the rest of the herd on a wild new adventure through unexplored and dangerous parts of the Lost World, complete with dinosaurs and lava.
Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary and Simon Pegg are set to return to the franchise.
The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Feb. 5, 2027.
Hexed
Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins are bringing some magic—and mischief—to Disney’s upcoming animated film Hexed.
The casting was announced during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 in Anaheim, California. Foster will voice a cunning witch queen, while Goggins takes on the role of Beef Roger Crummchuk, a three-eyed cat.
Starring Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones, Hexed follows an unconventional teenager and her Type A mother who discover that the teen’s quirks are actually signs of hidden magical powers—sending them into a world where magic runs wild.
Hexed arrives in theaters this November.
Zootopia 3
Zootopia is officially getting another adventure.
The franchise began with the 2016 hit, which introduced rabbit police officer Judy Hopps, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, and con artist fox Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman. After starting off on opposite sides, the pair eventually teamed up to crack a mystery in the bustling animal city.
Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan also confirmed that “the bunny and the snake” will return for the third installment.
Lilo & Stitch 2 live-action
Love is in the air for Stitch. Disney unveiled a first look at the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel, which gave a first glimpse of Angel, Stitch’s pink alien love interest, with her glowing antennae.
Maia Kealoha, who plays Lilo, took the stage to introduce the film as a fuzzy Stitch waved to the crowd onscreen.
Chris Sanders, the voice of Stitch and co-director of the original animated film, is returning to direct the sequel. The film is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2028.
Coco 2
Disney and Pixar shared concept art of the upcoming sequel, showing teenage Miguel with his beloved dog, Dante.
Disney and Pixar first confirmed that the sequel is officially in development in March 2025. Disney CEO Bob Iger said at the time that the sequel is expected to be "full of humor, heart, and adventure."
Coco 2 is set for a 2029 release.
