Studio MAPPA has made quite a name for itself in the animation industry for the past ten years. With big titles such as Yuri!! on Ice, Kekegurui xx, Banana Fish, the final season of Attack on Titan, and Jujutsu Kaisen, it is no wonder that the animation studio is booked with more upcoming titles.

MAPPA was founded by Masao Maruyama the founder and former producer for Madhouse, the studio behind the Hunter x Hunter (2011), Parasyte: The Maxim, the first season of One Punch Man, and Death Note.

Now, two of the biggest and most impressive Japanese animation studios are collaborating for an original film called takt op. Destiny. This was announced during MAPPA’s 10th year anniversary event along with a trailer.

The new series has a unique plot that only anime shows can pull off—the world changes when a black meteor falls on Earth, causing terrifying monsters, called D2, to emerge from it. The new monsters immediately take over the world and ban all kinds of music, the one thing they are vulnerable to.

That’s right, takt op. Destiny is an alien apocalyptic series with music involved, not just any kind of music, but classical music to be exact. The series is set in the year 2047 and follows the story of a group of young women called “Musicart” who can wield the power of music, the conductor Takt and his Musicart partner, Unmei, as they try to save the world.

The talented staff involved in the new series is no other than Dororo’s composer Yoshihiro Ike and Koki Uchiyama, who is known for his roles as Yuri Plisetsky in Yuri!! On Ice, Kei Tsukishima in Haikyuu, Razor in Genshin Impact, and his more recent work, Toge Inumaki in Jujutsu Kaisen, will be lending his voice for Takt. Yuuki Itoh is set to direct takt op. Destiny and Reiko Nagasawa as the character designer.

Takt op. Destiny isn’t the only anime Studio MAPPA is currently working on, there is still the upcoming Chainsaw Man, the anticipated finale for Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2, the prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen o The Movie, and the much awaited Yuri on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence

The series is set to drop in Japan on Oct. 5 this year.
