Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta AI glasses are coming to PH. Here's what to know
Looking for new tech to tinker with? Here's something to consider: smart glasses.
These devices are no longer just a gimmick in the tech world; They're proving to be more functional for daily tasks like taking photos and videos. The more stylish smart glasses, from popular brands Ray-Ban and Oakley, are becoming more accessible, as their latest Meta AI glasses line is hitting Philippine shelves soon.
Three fashionable Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) styles will arrive in the country: the Wayfarer, Aviator, and Zena. Those with more active lifestyles may opt for Oakley Meta glasses, which are available in HSTN and Vanguard silhouettes.
PhilSTAR L!fe got a preview of the new frames, and if you're eyeing one yourself, here's what you need to know about them.
Everything hands-free
The Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses roll the functionality of an AI assistant, earphones, and a camera into one gadget. When you're wearing the specs, simply say "Hey Meta" to get answers to queries like "how's the weather?" and "what are the top headlines for the day?" and it will give you localized answers.

You can even ask the gadget to identify objects in front of you, which will come in handy if you're shopping or traveling.
Additionally, you can tell the AI glasses to make calls, send messages, and set reminders without having to reach for your phone.
The device also plays music through open-ear Bluetooth speakers. In our testing, we found that people around you may hear your audio faintly. The speakers on the Oakley Meta Vanguard are noticeably louder, as they're built to keep your workout mix playing when you're running, cycling, and training outdoors.
When you're abroad and talking to someone speaking another language, tell Meta to start live translation. Currently, the Meta AI app only supports Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese. While Filipino is not yet available for live translation, you can still translate text you see with the glasses into the Philippine language.
Another highlight feature is the 12MP ultrawide camera, which can take high-res photos and up to 1080p, 60fps and 3K, 30fps videos. An LED will be flashing to indicate that you're recording.
As for battery life, the Ray-Ban Meta can last up to 9 hours of use on a single charge, with 50 more hours with its charging case. The Oakley Meta touts an eight-hour battery life and up to 48 hours with the charging case.
The Oakley Meta frames get beefier features, as they allow for seamless integration with fitness apps like Strava and Garmin to track performance in real time. You can ask questions about your stats, like your pace and heart rate.
The Meta glasses come in clear, sun, and transition lenses. You can also get them with prescription options.
Here's the SRP for the frames:
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) - P34,933
- Oakley Meta HSTN - P34,149

Starting Nov. 10, the Ray-Ban Meta will be available at authorized Ray-Ban dealers at select Vision Express, SM department stores, Sunglass Gallery, Eye Society, Sunglass Haven, and Ideal Vision Center stores.
