The silence is over.

CBS has released the first full trailer to Clarice, a follow-up television series to the psychological horror film The Silence of the Lambs airing this February.

Clarice features Rebecca Breeds (Home and Away, Pretty Little Liars) in the titular role made famous by Jodie Foster in the 1991 Oscar-winning film adapted from the novel by Thomas Harris. The Silence of the Lambs is the only Best Picture winner widely considered to be a horror film.

Clarice is set in 1993, one year after the events of the film. The series tells the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high-stakes political world of Washington, D.C.

In the original film, Clarice was a young FBI trainee hunting a serial killer, “Buffalo Bill” (Ted Levine), who skins his female victims. To catch him, she seeks the advice of the imprisoned Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. However, due to rights issues over certain characters, the new series can’t and won’t be mentioning Hannibal. Another popular television series focusing on the most famous cannibal serial killer played by Mads Mikkelsen was developed by rival network NBC and aired from 2013 to 2015.

In the haunting new trailer, set to Brandi Carlile's cover of John Denver's classic tune Country Roads, we see glimpses from the original film as we prepare to go on a new journey with the new Agent Starling.

The upcoming CBS original series comes from Jenny Lumet, Alex Kurtzman, MGM Television and CBS Studios. The drama also features Marnee Carpenter (Criminal Minds, Good Girls), Jayne Atkinson (Criminal Minds, House of Cards), Shawn Doyle (The Comey Rule, The Expanse), and Tim Guinee (Homeland, Elementary).

Clarice is set to premiere on Feb. 11, 2021 on CBS and CBS All Access.
