Neve Campbell confirms return as Sidney Prescott in ‘Scream 8’
Neve Campbell is set to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming Scream 8.
The actress confirmed her return to the horror franchise in an interview with the Associated Press while promoting the second season of the Netflix spy thriller series Black Doves.
Campbell mentioned the upcoming installment as one of her projects in development, saying, “Scream 8, you know, that’s in the pipeline as well.”
When asked if she could share more details about the film, she kept things brief.
“You know I can never tell you anything about Scream 8,” she said. “I’ll be in it.”
Campbell has played Sidney Prescott since the original Scream film premiered in 1996. She appeared in six of the franchise’s seven films, sitting out Scream VI in 2023 following a pay dispute with the studio.

At the time, Campbell said the offer for her to return did not reflect the value she brought to the franchise. She eventually returned as Sidney in Scream 7, which was released in 2026. The seventh installment became the franchise’s highest-grossing film, earning approximately $208 million worldwide, according to industry reports.
Scream 8 is in development with Poker Face showrunners Lilla and Nora Zuckerman reportedly writing the screenplay. Per The Wrap, Kevin Williamson, who directed Scream 7, is expected to remain involved as a producer, though he will not direct the next film.
Further plot details and the film’s release date have yet to be announced.
