Sharon Cuneta recalls how daughter Miel came out to her: 'Conservative ako, but I want her happiness'

Sharon Cuneta has nothing but love for her daughter Miel.

In a recent interview with Luis Manzano on his YouTube account, the Megastar recalled how she reacted when her youngest daughter finally had the courage to come out to her and say she's part of the LGBTQ+ community.

"Conservative ako eh, pero 'yung anak ko—alam mo in the end, kapag nanay ka, gusto mo lang 'yung happiness ng anak mo. Eh ang tino tino ng anak ko, hindi naman sakit 'yung pagiging miyembro ng LGBTQ+ community," Sharon said.

When Luis asked how Miel told them, she shared, "She was scared. Syempre nung una, nakakagulat eh. [A]fter a while, parang 'Okay, anak, whatever makes you happy.' I support her fully. Walang iniba, kasi I don't think anybody's in the position to judge."

The actress then took the time to praise the queer community, sharing that she has long been surrounded by gay people who are some of the "most decent, most loyal, and most upright" people she has known.

Luis said he shares the same sentiment as Sharon, saying that it wouldn't matter to him if his first child Isabella Rose or Peanut would also turn out to be queer.

"Ang pinaka-importante lang is I hope and pray that my child would be a blessing to other people. 'Yun lang 'yun. Kung saan niya mahanap ang puso niya, basta kapag pinag-usapan siya, 'Ay ayan si Peanut, si blessing sa mga tao 'yan,'" he said.

Sharon went on to share how she pities those who have been abandoned by their parents just because of their sexuality.

"Anak niyo 'yan eh, it doesn't mean na may ginawa kayong mali. It's just not the norm, siguro noon, hindi pinag-uusapan na ganito ka-open, pero marami na noon pa. Eh ngayon na pwede, bigyan niyo ng suporta 'yung anak niyo," the local star urged.

"Maganda 'yung nakakatulong, marunong magmahal, marunong makipagkapwa-tao. 'Yun ang importante," she added.

Luis then praised Sharon for wholly accepting Miel and making her feel loved in their household.

Miel came out as queer in June last year after posting photos of herself with the rainbow Pride flag on Instagram.

"Its a really emotional and freeing time right now, and I'm endlessly thankful to my close friends and family who have supported me and shown me love as I've grown and explored my own gender and sexual identity," she wrote at the time.
