BTS skips submitting music to 2027 Grammy Awards

BTS said that they will not submit any music for consideration in the 2027 Grammy Awards.

All seven members took to their Instagram stories to share a statement on the matter.

"We have decided not to submit an entry to the Grammys this year," each member wrote in Korean as translated by Google. "We hope that music can be heard and loved for its own sake, rather than being defined by region or language."

They ended with a message from their fans: "Thank you to ARMY and everyone who is always with us."

This comes a month after the Recording Academy announced five new categories, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance. According to the Grammys website, this award recognizes Asian pop music performances "originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop."

It also noted that the performances feature "meaningful use of one or more Asian languages."

Following the announcement, several users criticized the move, with some saying this will leave Asian artists out of major categories.

"This is racism but in pretty packaging," one X user wrote.

"The [Grammys] already have pop categories, but instead of Asians competing and winning [through] it y'all are making a category separately. The xenophobia and racism is oozing out of this[,]" added another.
