The piece was made by Thom Browne and it took over 13,500 hours and a team of more than 70 people to make, the American designer told Vogue.
Gigi's gown featured hand-embroidered pieces along the skirt and corset. 20 artisans embedded 2.8 million micro bugle beads on the dress for about 5,000 hours.

The On the Floor singer showed up at the MET Gala wearing a fitted sparkling silver sheer gown by Schiaparelli Haute Couture which took over 800 hours to accomplish.
The Schiaparelli custom gown was designed by Daniel Roseberry who meticulously hand-embroidered with rhinestones and silver pearls to produce the striking finished gown.

According to Vogue, the pattern for the ensemble acquired 40 hours of work and it took around 600 hours with four seamstresses working together to complete the dress.
Ashley Graham
Model Ashley Graham attended the event wearing a Ludovic de Saint Sernin-bespoke gown which had metallic flowers attached to the waist part of her gown.
During the red carpet, Ashley told TODAY.com that her dress for this anticipated event was handmade and took over 500 hours of work to complete.
“It's insanity what [Ludovic de Saint Sernin] and his team did,” Ashley said.
“I can barely breathe. The organs have been moved together. As you can see, this is not my normal waist,” she added.
Kendall Jenner
Like Emma, supermodel Kendall Jenner also has a dark and gothic interpretation for this year’s MET Gala theme as she pulled off a classy villain look.
Kendall made a splash wearing a 1999 gown from Givenchy designed by Alexander Mcqueen. Her dress took 500 hours to complete as it consisted of 100,000 beads and sequins.
Rosalia
Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalia pulled off a classy, and sophisticated look at the MET gala with her all-black gown by Dior.
The wool and silk black tube dress with a long black tail at the back was topped off with a net veil placed around her face.

Demi Moore
Among all the celebrities on this list, actress and producer Demi Moore’s look logged the longest time to complete at 11,000 hours.
The actress graced the event wearing a black structural gown with gigantic pink peonies around, which took long hours of silk embroidery. Her gown also featured a heart-shaped structural shoal with spikes.
Despite looking like it weighed a lot, Demi told Vogue that her dress was not heavy at all and it made her want to dance.
Harris Reed, the designer of Demi’s gown revealed that the gown was made of wallpaper. The inspiration began from a Cartier necklace that Demi wore which gave Harris the floral concept.
"It’s 11,000 hours of silk embroidery that we’ve repurposed into this idea of her blooming on the carpet. I wanted to be the vines to her thorns,” he said.
Nicole Kidman
Australian-American actress and Balenciaga ambassador Nicole Kidman teamed up with Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia to create her black and white Met Gala look.
The gown was inspired by the fashion house's 1951 archives by Cristobal Balenciaga and distinctively photographed on model Dorian Leigh.
According to Vogue, 800 hours were spent on the gown for hand embroidery and the application of 3,000 feathers made from 150 meters of silk organza.
