There are three food ingredients that are always banned from the Met Gala menu, its main host Anna Wintour revealed.

Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine, told TODAY in a video interview ahead of the presitigious affair that chives, onion, and garlic have been a no-no ever since, as they’re known for causing bad breath.

“So yes, that's true,” Wintour said.

Aside from the odorous food, guests are also banned from using their phones during the event.

According to Wintour, it’s often wonderful to hear people say that they had the most wonderful conversations. "So that's the idea, that life can exist without a picture on your cell phone,” she added.

Wintour has hosted the social gathering since it was first held in 1948.

It sees the entertainment industry’s brightest stars parade through the Metropolitan Museum of Art in extravagant outfits. It also marks the opening of the annual exhibit at the Met's Costume Institute.

This year’s dress code is "The Garden of Time," which draws inspiration from the 1962 short story of the same name written by English writer J.G. Ballard. It essentially talks about the ephemeral nature of beauty.

The theme parallels the show "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," an exhibit that will focus on the most fragile pieces of the Costume Institute's vast collection "visually united by iconography related to nature." It's available for public viewing from May 10 to Sept. 2.

Showbiz A-listers Jennifer LopezZendayaBad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth are this year's co-hosts. (with reports from AFP)
