The power of a second chance
Have you ever been so close to your dream that you could almost touch it—only to realize the biggest question isn’t whether you can achieve it, but whether you can afford to?
It’s a reality many Filipinos know all too well.
For Sheila Mae Gomez, this challenge stood between her and her dream of becoming a lawyer. Through perseverance, smart financial decisions, and the right support, she found a way forward.
What it takes to get there
The sixth installment of #GCashStories follows Atty. Sheila Mae Gomez’s journey from falling short at her first bar exam attempt to finally achieving her dream of becoming a lawyer with the help of GLoan, the flagship cash loan product of Fuse Financing Inc., the lending arm of GCash.
“Imbis na panghinaan ng loob, mas nanggigil ako para makabawi,” she shares. But determination alone could not cover the cost of a second chance.
“Hindi naman sikreto sa lahat na mahal mag-law. Mga libro, notes, at ballpen pa lang [ay] kailangan na ng financial resources. Ano pa kaya ang pag-enroll sa review center?” she recalls.
The challenge was figuring out where to get the funds she needed to continue pursuing her dream.
“Sa amin kasi sa Iloilo, nasa P22,000 to P25,000 ang range ng magagandang review packages,” she adds.
Through GCash, the country’s leading finance super app and largest cashless ecosystem, Gomez managed her expenses and stayed focused on her goal.
“Nung review season na, ni-recommend ito ng friend ko. Sakto nung tinry ko, mabilis naman agad si GLoan. Once verified and eligible ka na, ready na for disbursement at diretso na sa GCash wallet mo ang pera,” she shares.
Today, Gomez uses her law license to guide her clients while providing free legal services to local communities.
The difference access makes
That’s the change Fuse hopes to drive: helping more Filipinos access financial tools that support their ambitions.
“We envisioned a tech-driven lending solution that bridges the credit gap and brings millions of unbanked and underserved Filipinos into the formal financial system,” explains Fuse President and CEO Tony Isidro.
As of the first quarter of 2026, Fuse has disbursed more than P406 billion in loans, helping over 11.1 million Filipinos access formal credit.
One of its biggest milestones, according to Fuse Chief Product Officer and Strategy Head Baby Aquino, is that 85% of their borrowers are first-time formal borrowers.
“That means we've helped move millions of Filipinos away from predatory lenders and loan sharks, giving them a safer, more reliable alternative,” she says.
Alongside offerings like GGives and GCredit, Fuse helps simplify everyday transactions and gives users more flexibility to plan for what matters most.
Gomez’s story shows that setbacks do not have to be the end of a dream—they can be the beginning of a comeback. With resilience and a trusted partner by her side, what once seemed impossible became a reality.
The sixth installment of #GCashStories: Kasama Mo Mangarap premiered on July 14, 2026, at the Maybank Theater in BGC. Watch the latest story across all GCash platforms or stream it here: GCash Stories: Sheila I Official Full Film.
