This groom scheduled a heartwarming email for his bride, exactly four years before their wedding day
When you know, you know.
Such is the case for Mark Mecate when he wrote an email for his girlfriend, Carol Joy Virgo, in February of 2018. Mark was starting out on a new job at the time and the two were already cooking up their future together.
Though the couple already knew they wanted to get married in the future, Mark's financial woes could not be ignored. With Valentine's Day around the corner, Mark, unfortunately, couldn't give Carol the special day he had planned.
"Dun na ako napaisip. Hala. July 2022 yung wedding na ipinangako namin sa isa't isa. Kaya ko ba talaga 'yun? That struck me. Ang gusto ko lang naman is to tell her what I felt that day," Mark shared with PhilSTAR L!fe.
Thus, Mark wrote a lengthy email chronicling both his doubts and certainty at the time, as a form of assurance to Carol four years later.
"You are always asking me. Why I don't have plans. I'll tell you what. I have," he began.
He then gave three instances for their relationship: If they are still together but not yet married, if they did get married, and the worst case scenario: if they failed to fulfill their promise and break up.
"2018 Mark surely loves you. I hope 2022 Mark loves you more. Nevertheless, I just hope we're in good places."
In all three instances, Mark wished for nothing but happiness for Carol. Ending the letter with the ultimate symbol of love: wishing the other happiness, no matter what.
"Overall, I hope we're both happy. Thank you for the memories," the 2018 Mark wrote.
Four years later, they would have dream wedding and say "I do."
Carol shared the heartwarming letter online and has since gained waves of support and love from family, friends, and strangers.
"Nagulat ako, nakita ko kasi nagnotify sa phone ko na may email sya. So ako, na-weirduhan kasi nga, kasal namin that day," Carol shared with PhilSTAR L!fe a week after their wedding. "Pagkabasa ko, syempre nakakakilig, kasi super unexpected yung ganun kahit na alam ko namang sweet siya."
With her well of bridal jitters and emotions, Carol had her own choice words for the four-year-long email: "Naspeechless talaga ako, kaya ang reply ko sa email nya ay 'huyyyy. Hahahaha.'"
As for continuing the unexpected email tradition, Carol says that Mark still has more tricks up his sleeves: "According to him, yes he will still surprise me with some scheduled emails. To be honest, sweet talaga si hubby in so many aspects."
Through the years, Carol has been learning of the sweet little gestures that Mark has done without her knowledge in the past, such as selling buchi on the streeet when they first started dating in 2009 to give her gifts, offering her a promise ring during their third year anniversary, to proposing to her on Independence day "para daw po makalaya na daw po ako kakatanong sa kanya."
With that one milestone down, Carol and Mark are now set to achieve other goals as couple, such as traveling the world together, helping out their families and work teammates, and having their own little bundle of joy.
Just like Mark's pending emails and their plans, that's something they know for sure.
