Reuters News appoints first female editor-in-chief in its 170-year history
For the first time in its 170-year history, Reuters News has appointed a woman as editor-in-chief.
Alessandra Galloni, 47, has served as the agency’s global managing editor since 2015. After starting her career at the Reuters Italian-language news service, she worked for 13 years at The Wall Street Journal and returned to Reuters in 2013.
Reuters president Michael Friedenberg said she “has driven innovation, speed and quality throughout our newsgathering organization since becoming global managing editor.”
In a statement, Galloni expressed her excitement over her new role under the media giant. “For 170 years, Reuters has set the standard for independent, trusted, and global reporting,” Galloni said. “It is an honor to lead a world-class newsroom full of talented, dedicated, and inspiring journalists.”
