Miley Cyrus looks back on the day she decided to divorce Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus has finally revealed when she decided to end her marriage with Liam Hemsworth in 2019.
On her Used To Be Young TikTok series, the 30-year-old star talked about the “untold” behind-the-scenes moments from the major events in her life, including the day when she decided to call it quits with Liam, who she was in a relationship with for 10 years.
"I have to slow down because this is actually serious," she began. She then revealed that she decided to end her marriage the same day she did her controversial performance at the Glastonbury music festival in 2019.
“So that was another moment where the work, the performance, the character came first,” she added. Prior to this, she shared that she continued to shoot her Black Mirror episode in South Africa while knowing that her Malibu home was burning.
“I guess that’s why it’s now so important to me for that to not be the case, that the human comes first,” she added.
“Me and Liam’s commitment to being married just really came from, of course, a place of love first because we’d been together for 10 years,” she shared.
“But also, from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could. The day of the show was the day that I decided that it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship,” she continued.

Miley and Liam were married for eight months until their split in June 2019. She previously opened up about their divorce in an interview in 2020, sharing the trauma she suffered after all her valuables, both in her career and personal life, turned into ashes after the fire.
“I had so much, and it was all gone, every song I had ever written was in that house. Every photograph of me that my parents had given to me, all my scripts, I lost everything,” she said during an interview with ELLE.
“I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him,” she added.
Despite this, the Flowers singer said that she does not regret their marriage.
“I wouldn’t erase my story or want it to be erased,” she told Vogue in May, referring to the end of her 10-year relationship. “Having an interesting life makes for interesting storytelling.”
Miley is currently in a relationship with musician Maxx Morando, whom she met through a blind date. Liam, meanwhile, is currently dating Gabriella Brooks.
