Liza Marcos shuts down fake news amid drug use allegations
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos shut down a fake post that claimed she threw shade at her sister-in-law Sen. Imee Marcos amid the latter's drug use allegations against the First Family.
On Nov. 19, Liza posted on social media about her meeting with foreign filmmakers and actors shooting in the Philippines, saying that she felt "kilig" when they told her they wanted to bring Hollywood to the country.
"Why? 'Because you Filipinos are so genuine and kind,'" she wrote, adding a winky face emoji.
"[I] wanted to say: 'Welcome to entertainment—Pinoy style. Only in the Pinas will you find a plot full of holes and actors who can't deliver and a climax that leaves entire communities underwater. Let's not even talk about FAKE news."
In another post, she addressed an art card that she said falsely attributed her.
"And speaking of FAKE NEWS... 'Welcome to entertainment, Pinoy style,'" Liza captioned, adding three laughing emojis.
The fake post included a supposed quote from Liza saying she won't argue with Imee as she's her husband's sister and out of respect to her mother-in-law, former First Lady Imelda Marcos. It ended with a line accusing Imee of going under the knife.
Presidential Communications Office Usec. Claire Castro also slammed the fake post.
"Hindi po ganyan ugali ng ating First Lady," she said in an interview with Unang Balita.
During the second day of the Iglesia ni Cristo rally on Nov. 17, Imee claimed that Bongbong uses illegal drugs. She recalled urging her brother to marry Liza to solve his alleged drug addiction, but said things got worse.
"Mas lumala ang kanyang paglulong sa droga dahil parehas pala silang mag-asawa," the senator said, alleging the president and FL does cocaine with their friends.
She further accused the presidential children of also using drugs, which prompted House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, the First Couple's firstborn, to issue a statement.
“It pains me to see how low she has gone to the point that she resorts to a web of lies aimed at destabilizing this government to advance her own political ambitions,” he said.
Per Sandro, the drug use claims are “not only false, but dangerously irresponsible.”
Meanwhile, Castro said that Bongbong is "dismayed" with his sister's claims.
"Hindi po pakikinggan kung anong hamon ang gusto nitong si Sen. Imee Marcos," she said on the senator's call for the First Family to undergo a hair follicle drug test. "Para ano? Parang ano ang papatunayan? Matagal nang napatunayan na nag-negative ang Pangulo sa isang drug test."
Apart from drug allegations, Bongbong has also been implicated in 2025 budget insertions worth P100 billion, along with his cousin former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, by ex-Ako Bicol Party-list representative Zaldy Co.
