Heads up, commuters: LRT-1 extends operating hours during weekdays

Good news, commuters: The operating hours of Light Rail Transit - Line 1 have been extended during weekdays.

Light Rail Manila Corporation made the announcement on Tuesday, March 25, saying that LRT-1's train service schedule has been adjusted to extend its evening operations on weekdays by 30 minutes.

It will take effect on Wednesday, March 26.

The last train will leave Dr. Santos Station at 10:30 p.m. (from 10:00 p.m.) and Fernando Poe Jr. Station at 10:45 p.m. (from 10:15 p.m.)

The LRMC noted there will be no adjustments for the first train leaving Dr. Santos and Fernando Poe Jr. stations at 4:30 a.m. on weekdays, and 5:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays.

LRMC President and CEO Enrico R. Benipayo said that they're backing the Department of Transportation's call "to provide extended service for the benefit of the riding public."

"In coming up with the new operating schedule, we also considered how the extension period will also not significantly impact the available maintenance window to ensure continuous availability, reliability, and safety of our service," he said. "We shall continue to monitor the situation and adjust accordingly, and rest assured that we will continue to implement initiatives that will allow us to better serve our passengers."

To improve the commuting experience of Pinoys, the LRMC shared it's also working to provide better services such as "the strategic deployment of an expanded fleet and additional trains as needed."

"LRMC advises passengers to plan their trips ahead of time. LRT-1 ticket booths close five minutes before the last train departs from the stations," it concluded.

This comes a day after the MRT-3 extended its evening hours by one hour. Check out the adjusted train schedule here.
