Zaldy Co reportedly staying in luxury home in France—Remulla
Zaldy Co is reportedly staying at his luxury home in Paris as he seeks asylum in France, according to Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Jonvic Remulla.
"He has a house in Champs-Élysées na 10 bedrooms na malapit sa Christian Dior. Ganito kalaki 'yung taas ng mga ceiling noon, 10 bedrooms. Probably worth maybe 200 million dollars, euros, 'yung isang bahay na ganun," the SILG said during the Kapihan ng Samahang Plaridel on May 8.
"Doon siya ngayon."
Remulla added that he's confident in the Interpol red notice that the Philippine government applied against Co in September 2025. "I'm confident we're going to get Zaldy Co back here to the Philippines."
"I am confident na bago matapos 'yung asylum application niya, makukuha na natin si Zaldy," he said. "Six-month application process kasi 'yan (asylum application). Sometimes, tumatagal."
Meanwhile, conversations with French authorities blocking Co's asylum bid are "going on to that effect," as per Remulla.
On April 16, Marcos himself announced on Facebook that Co was caught in Prague, Czech Republic, for entering the country without a passport. On April 28, Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida confirmed that Co had left the country and was no longer under Czech custody. Later, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the resigned lawmaker was seeking political asylum in France.
Co is considered a central figure in the flood control scandal involving billions of pesos lost to alleged corruption.
On Atong Ang
Remulla also bared that businessman Atong Ang, who is wanted for his alleged involvement in the missing sabungeros case, is in the Philippines.
"Last sighting sa kanya [sa] Cavite, one month ago," the SILG said.
Upon learning about Ang's whereabouts, Remulla said he immediately organized a strike team, but the businessman had already fled. "We acted very fast as well as we could," Remulla said.
Ang is at the center of a nationwide manhunt after the Regional Trial Court Branch 26 in Sta. Cruz, Laguna ordered his arrest along with his co-accused in January.
They were slapped with kidnapping with homicide and kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges a few weeks prior. According to the law, kidnapping with homicide is a non-bailable offense.
There is now a P10 million reward for those who can provide any information leading to Ang's arrest.
