Potholes found in newly rehabilitated portions of EDSA
Amid the relentless rains brought by the habagat, potholes have emerged in portions of EDSA that were recently rehabilitated.
In a video posted by the Department of Public Works and Highways, Secretary Vince Dizon was seen inspecting potholes along the southbound EDSA busway near Buendia Avenue in Makati City.
"P****a naman oh! Ano ba nangyari dito? Kabago-bago, bakit nagkakaganoon? P******a talaga oh, dapat na-anticipate natin ito eh. Barado eh oh," he said.
"Ang nangyayari, since lowest point ito ng [EDSA rehab] Phase 1, lahat ng tubig.. kita mo naman. Lahat ng tubig na bumababa dito, naiiwan. Wala kasi tayong drainage dito. Ideally sana, may drainage ka dito sa gitna para nagde-drain sya [‘yung tubig] dito. Pero wala, eh. MRT na ‘yan, eh," he added.
To temporarily resolve flooding issues, Dizon said that ducts will be installed to channel rainwater out of the EDSA busway.
He assured that once the habagat, which has been battering Metro Manila over the past few days, has passed, they will have the potholes fixed at no cost to the government.
"Kapag medyo gumanda na 'yung panahon, ayusin na ito nang permanente. They fix it, no cost to government; the contractor has to fix that. And then we have to just make sure that the water does not stay," Dizon said.
Over the past week, the Philippines has been drenched by tropical cyclone Luis, tropical storm Maymay—both of which weakened into low pressure areas—and the habagat.
As of 2 p.m. on Aug. 10, Metro Manila as well as other areas of Luzon were under orange and yellow rainfall warnings. A yellow rainfall warning means flooding may occur in low-lying areas, while an orange rainfall warning indicates a greater risk of flooding and possible landslides.
Zambales and Bataan may see occasional rains on Tuesday, Aug. 11, while Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique will see cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
