The Land Transportation Office has summoned the viral police officer who shoved another rider on the road.

In a Facebook post on May 13, the LTO confirmed that it issued a show cause order against the cop, requiring him to appear at a hearing on May 18 at the agency’s central office.

A viral video showed the officer tailing a motorcycle rider along a road in Pasig City before he was seen extending his left arm to push the rear portion of the vehicle, causing the rider to lose balance and fall.

The policeman is facing charges for Reckless Driving, Duty of the Driver in Case of an Accident, Use of Number Plates, and allowing an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle. His driver’s license has also been suspended for 90 days, with his motorcycle placed under alarm status.

“Walang puwang sa lansangan ang anumang uri ng karahasan, panggigipit, o iresponsableng pagmamaneho kahit sino pa ang sangkot. Hindi exempted ang sinuman sa batas. Ang mandato natin ay protektahan ang publiko at tiyaking ligtas ang ating mga kalsada para sa lahat,” LTO Chief Markus Lacanilao said.

A May 14 report by GMA’s Unang Balita identified the officer as a staff sergeant assigned to the Quezon City Police District. He is now under QCPD custody and has been disarmed.

Authorities said the victim reported the incident to the PNP Highway Patrol Group, whose investigation revealed that the altercation began after the officer allegedly performed a dangerous overtaking maneuver.

The cop is also facing administrative complaints over a broken license plate.
