Taiwanese actor Darren Wang under investigation for attempted murder—report
Taiwanese actor Darren Wang is reportedly under investigation for attempted murder after allegedly assaulting ride-hailing driver and dispatcher.
According to reports by local media Taiwan News and TVBS, Wang booked a car ride upon arriving at Taiwan Taoyuan airport. When he got out of the car, he allegedly beat up both the driver and the dispatcher after being “unsatisfied” with the poor quality of the vehicle. He also allegedly tried to urge his friends to assault the driver.
The police have transferred him and another man surnamed You, to the judicial authorities to be investigated for attempted murder, TVBS said. More details about the case have yet to be clarified.
In response to the report, Wang’s manager said that they are "in the midst of understanding" the incident, per China Times report.
Wang made headlines in the past weeks after he got arrested by the Taiwanese authorities for allegedly dodging military service, where he is scheduled to enlist on March 13.
The Straits Times reported that Wang was nabbed at his home on the morning of Feb. 18 and was released on bail of NT$150,000 (P260,000) later that day.
He is suspected of having paid NT$1 million (P1.7 million) to a crime syndicate for a fake medical document stating he has a heart condition to get an exemption.
Wang, also known as Wang Ta-lu, is known for his roles in films and series Our Times, The Wolf, No More Bets, and Wolf Hiding, among others.
