BDO said withdrawals made under the account of a certain Gleen Cañete were valid following a viral video where the latter broke into tears as he claimed he lost P345,000 to hackers.

"Please be informed that in the recent passbook incident, as narrated by Mr. Gleen Cañete in his social media account, BDO has been able to account for the withdrawals that caused stress to Mr. Cañete," the bank said in a statement on June 24. "All withdrawals done by the accountholder online were verified to be valid."

BDO said Cañete advised that they would resolve matters within their family.

"BDO always looks after the security of its clients and encourages them to maintain privacy of their accounts," it added.

Cañete, in a now-deleted Facebook video that was captured by several pages, said the money of his child meant for college tuition got taken.

"Ang account ng anak ko na-hack. Ubos lahat ang laman pang-college niya," he said. "'Di ko alam paano umpisahan ito."

According to him, BDO told them the account was successfully connected online despite the passbook not having online banking or a card.

"Masakit. Ubos lahat," he said, before asking the bank to do something about the P345,000, which he said he saved for years.

Cañete's eyes were welling up and his voice was shaking throughout the clip.

After BDO issued its statement, Cañete wrote a post saying he deleted his viral video as he was able to talk to the bank about the matter.

In another post, Cañete thanked those who sympathized with him but noted that he cannot disclose every detail about the issue.

“Pasensya na po kayong lahat, kailangan ko muna unahin ang pamilya. Pasensya na kayo nakapag-video ako dahil sa sobrang sakit ng naramdaman ko, 'di ko mapigilang maglabas sa social media," he said.

"Basta kung may mga problema kayo sa katulad sa akin, makipag-ugnayan kayo sa tamang ahensya at ‘wag kayo matakot dahil karapatan natin lahat ‘yan," he added. "Maraming maraming salamat sa inyong simpatiya."
