The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) has relieved three airport staff of their duties after an alleged theft at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on Apr. 3, Good Friday.

OTS Administrator Gilberto DC Cruz ordered the removal of two screening officers and a supervisor following a report that an Australian passenger lost P7,000 in cash in the terminal.

The foreigner claimed the money was stolen from her shoulder bag during a table inspection. She said she found out about the loss after failing to pay for bottled water near the boarding gate.

As the investigation continues, the Philippine STAR reported on Apr. 5 that the suspects admitted to the crime and that the tourist will no longer press charges.

“We do not tolerate such acts within our organization. Any violation of trust or misconduct will be thoroughly investigated, and those found responsible will face appropriate consequences, both criminal and administrative punishments, if warranted," Cruz said in a statement.

He added that the organization is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity while ensuring the safety and security of all passengers.

Department of Transportation Sec. Giovanni Lopez has also ordered tighter bag inspections and intensified monitoring of OTS screening officers.

"Kung mapatunayan na ang ilang mga OTS Security Screening Officers ang nangunguna sa paglabag ng batas kabilang na ang pagnanakaw ng mga gamit o pera ng mga pasahero, tiyak na may kalalagyan kayo at sisiguraduhin naming mapaparusahan ang mga nagkasala," he said in a statement.

Lopez also reminded passengers to report suspicious activity by airport personnel.

He added that the three suspects face criminal and administrative complaints.
