Expect cheaper airfares this April as fuel surcharge lowered

Published Mar 20, 2025 12:20 pm

There's no better sign to book that flight than this: Airfares are expected to get cheaper in April as fuel surcharge is going down.

The Civil Aeronautics Board released an advisory on March 17 stating that fuel surcharge will decrease from the current level 6 to level 4 in the following month.

For domestic flights, the passenger fuel surcharge will be between P117 and P342, while for international flights, the rates will be between P385.70 and P2,867.82, depending on the distance.

Flights paid for in foreign currency are advised to follow the conversion rate of P57.94 to $1.

This is lower than the rates for plane tickets this March, in which fuel surcharge range from P185 to P665 for domestic flights and P610 to P4,538 for international destinations.

Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file an application with CAB on or before the effectivity period from April 1 to 30.

Fuel surcharges are additional fees to the base fares that help airline companies cover costs and cope with the ever-changing prices of jet fuel.
