Three Philippine-based chefs were awarded at the recently concluded Best Chef Awards held in Dubai.

In this eighth edition of the annual event, Jordy Navarra of Toyo Eatery in Makati was among the over 170 chefs across the globe who were given a rating of Two Knives (World Class).

Meanwhile, chefs Chele Gonzalez of Gallery by Chele in Taguig and Stephan Duhesme of Makati’s Metiz Restaurant were conferred with One Knife (Excellent).

Pinay chef Johanne Siy of Singapore-based restaurant Lolla was also among the over 200 chefs who were honored with One Knife.

A total of 550 chefs from 61 countries were awarded this year's edition of The Best Chef Awards. Topping the list are chef Rasmus Munk of Denmark's Alchemist who landed in the first spot, chef Albert Adrià of Enigma in Spain in second, and chef Eric Vildgaard of Jordnær in Denmark in the third place. All three were Three Knives (The Best) awardees.

The awards are based on votes from 348 chefs and 220 professional voters comprising food journalists and gastronomy experts from 63 countries.

They rate chefs’ expertise in tiered recognition systems. One Knife (Excellent) was awarded to chefs who earned 20% or more of the maximum points, while Two Knives (World Class) was awarded to chefs who achieved 40% or more of the maximum points. The highest award, Three Knives (The Best), was given to chefs who got 80% or more of the maximum possible points and indicated one’s "top-tier culinary mastery.”

The Best Chef Awards recognizes and celebrates the culinary excellence of talented chefs around the world. Other than presenting the best in the world’s gastronomic scene, they also aim to inspire younger generations who can learn from their passion and ideas.
