Apple releases new Macbook Pro, Air with M5 chip
Apple has beefed up its laptop line as it unveiled the new MacBook Air with the M5 chip, and the new MacBook Pro with the latest M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.
The devices were released on March 3, a day after the tech giant took the wraps off the iPhone 17e and M4 iPad Air.
MacBook Air
According to Apple, the new MacBook Air is expected to bring "exceptional performance and expanded AI capabilities to the world’s most popular laptop."
Equipped with the new M5 chip, it features a faster CPU and next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, allowing the laptop to work through a variety of workflows that include complex AI tasks.
The new laptop comes with 512GB SSD, double that of last time, and configurable up to 4TB. It also has an N1 wireless chip that delivers Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for seamless connectivity on the go.
The slim laptop features a Liquid Retina display, a 12MP Center Stage camera, up to 18 hours of battery life, an immersive sound system with Spatial Audio, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for up to two external displays.
The model runs on macOS Tahoe with support for Apple Intelligence, and is available in 13- and 15-inch models in sky blue, midnight, starlight, and silver.
MacBook Pro
The more powerful device in the line is the new MacBook Pro, which comes in 14- and 16-inch sizes. This laptop can be equipped with either the M5 Pro or M5 Max chip, which Apple says is eight times more powerful in AI performance than M1 models.
The tech giant also boasts two times faster SSD performance, as the MacBook Pro now starts at 1TB storage for M5 Pro and 2TB for M5 Max.
Other specs include a Liquid Retina XDR display with a nano-texture option, a 12MP Center Stage camera, and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. It also runs on macOS Tahoe with Apple Intelligence capabilities.
As for battery life, the new MacBook Pro gets 24 hours of use. It comes in space black and silver.
