One millionth Pinoy tourist welcomed in Hong Kong
To say that Filipinos love going to Hong Kong is an understatement. This year, the city welcomed its one millionth Filipino tourist of 2024, surpassing its previous record of 930,000 in 2018.
According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), it welcomed couple Miguel and Ana Linao and their three children as the millionth Pinoy guests for the year.
HKTB said it recognizes the Philippines as a key market in its tourism recovery.
"From January to October 2024, Filipino visitors made up 920,000 of the 2.3 million Southeast Asian arrivals, an impressive 127 percent recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels," the agency said, adding that they are delighted that Hong Kong has become the leading travel destination for Filipino tourists.
The report said that among all regions, Southeast Asia has shown the most rapid recovery in terms of tourist arrivals to Hong Kong since it fully reopened to international tourists.
Based on a survey, Southeast Asian visitors typically stay for 3.4 nights, and spend about HK$7,100 (P53,524) per trip. They frequent tourist spots like Temple Street and Ladies’ Market, as well as the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade featuring the Avenue of Stars, the Clock Tower, and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
HKTB also shared that Hong Kong recorded 36.67 million visitor arrivals in the first 10 ten months of 2024, a 37% increase compared to the previous year.
It is targeting a total arrival of 46 million tourists by the end of 2024.
