5 things to do in Puerto Galera, which now allows entry of fully vaccinated tourists without COVID test
Are you planning your next beach vacation? Puerto Galera has dropped its RT-PCR test requirement for fully vaccinated individuals, and the very heart of the “Coral Triangle” is waiting to be rediscovered.
Puerto Galera is located in Mindoro, which is famous for its diverse coral reef diving. It only takes three to four hours of travel time from Manila, so tourists have more time to enjoy its extensive white sandy beaches, abundant marine life, and breathtaking views.
On July 12, Mayor Rocky Ilagan confirmed in an interview with Teleradyo DZMM the new guidelines and protocols for travelers. “Yung aming strict border control ay mahigit isang taon at kalahati nang pinatupad. Until now meron RT-PCR pag di pa vaccinated. ‘Yong fully vaccinated pinapapasok na namin,” he said.
Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to undergo RT-PCR testing but should present their domestic vaccination cards indicating their full vaccination. For other travelers, a negative RT-PCR test should be issued within 24 hours of travel.
Second dose should be received at least two weeks prior to travel. First dose of a single-dose vaccine should also be received at least two weeks prior.
Vaccines received should be included on the Philippine Food and Drug Administration’s Emergency Use Authorization list, Compassionate Special Permit List or the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing.
Visitors should register at https://s-pass.ph. Health screenings will be done upon arrival at the borders of Puerto Galera.
In line with the IATF’s resolutions, there is a strict observance of public minimum health standards which include wearing of masks and face shield, social distancing, proper sanitation, and cough etiquette.
Things to do in Puerto Galera
Visit Talipanan Beach and Falls
If you long for a low-key and more relaxing beach with scenery, away from other tourists, Talipanan beach is the place to be.
To visit, tourists have two options: take a boat in Puerto Galera that has a direct stop at Talipanan, or organize a day tour to join other tourists in their island hopping.
To reach Talipanan Falls, you have to trek 30 minutes through the Mangyan Village, which offers cultural souvenirs you can take home with you.
Tamaraw Falls
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to explore the beauty of nature, visit Tamaraw falls.
Known to have the cleanest body of water in the province, the twin waterfalls run three stories high and flow directly to two man-made pools, where you can relax and enjoy its majestic view.
If you wish to stay a little bit longer, there are nipa huts near the falls where you can have a picnic and barbecue. For those who did not bring their own packed meals, there are stalls that sell beverages and snacks.
Aninuan Beach
For couples in for a romantic getaway, visit Puerto Galera’s hidden gem, Aninuan beach. Book your stay at Sunset Aninuan Beach Resort, a place favored by newlyweds and families with children.
Aninuan beach is also near the famous White Sand beach as well as Talipanan beach.
From there, you will see Mt. Malasimbo, home of the indegenous Magnayan tribe, and teeming with fauna and flora such as rare, wild species, wild boars and deer.
Try the Mindoro Sling
While Puerto Galera is famous for its high-spirited nightlife, there is a drink that White Beach is known for—Mindoro Sling.
Mindoro Sling is a cocktail made with rum, artificial sweeteners, Sprite, and mixed fruit juices. Be advised to drink moderately as the beverage has a strong kick into it.
This is available in every bar at White Beach but Mikko’s Bar is said to offer the best of Galera’s classics.
Mindoro Sling is now available in bottles and can be purchased in Digicafe. Check their instagram account here.
