Marvel Studios drops new trailer for 'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier'
Marvel Studios has just dropped a two-minute official trailer for its upcoming series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier during the Super Bowl.
Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their title roles as Sam Wilson (The Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) for the Disney Plus show. The series pairs the two Marvel Comics characters as they "team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience."
The six episode series is part of the Phase Four series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) set after the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), and shares continuity with the films of the franchise.
After the Avengers and their allies finally defeated Thanos in Endgame, Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) passed on his shield to Sam. The Phase Four series will explore whether or not Sam steps up and takes up the mantle of Cap.
Showrunner Malcolm Spellman has said the tone of the series will be similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).
The studio dropped a "first look" trailer for the series last December during Disney Investor Day. The newly released two-minute trailer that debuted during the recent Super Bowl weekend gives a lengthier look at the superheroes' buddy-cop vibe and banter in between catching the bad guys.
The official trailer opens with Sam and Bucky in the midst of some kind of therapy in hopes of getting them to work together with less friction, given their very different operating styles. The action-packed fight sequences ends with a staring contest between the bickering buddies.
As reported by ArsTechnica, the primary villain for the series will be Baron Helmut Zemo, a Sokovian colonel-turned-terrorist who is obsessed with defeating the Avengers, with Daniel Brühl reprising the role from Captain America: Civil War. We catch a glimpse of the trademark purple mask from the comics in this new trailer as a voiceover intones, "Superheroes cannot be allowed to exist. I have no intention to leave my work unfinished."
The duo will also be battling an "anarchist anti-patriotism group" called the Flag-Smashers, with Erin Kellerman playing one of the masked members.
Emily VanCamp reprises her Civil War role as Sharon Carter (the great-niece of S.H.I.E.L.D. founder and director Agent Peggy Carter). Sharon, who followed in her aunt's footsteps, has apparently been on the run since the end of that film and gets to showcase some butt-kicking talents this time around.
Don Cheadle will also make an appearance on the series as Rhodey/War Machine, while George St.-Pierre will be back as mercenary and kickboxing master Georges Batroc. Wyatt Russell will play John F. Walker, described as "a militaristic successor to Captain America" created by the US government.
