Halloween is here and Filipino horror flicks can really provide Pinoy horror geeks a distinct watching experience.
If you identify among these horror lovers, chances are, you know that these films could give you the bizarre feeling of having someone else watch the film with you even if you're alone. Worse, it could even hinder you from using the toilet without pleading your brother or sister to accompany you.
Local horror movies undoubtedly arouse those irrational concerns you attempt to suppress by drawing on the nation's rich folklore, superstitions, and urban legends.
And so, PhilSTAR L!fe collated some local horror movies you can enjoy free on YouTube during this spooky season.
Guni-guni (2012)
Guni-guni narrates the tale of Mylene Castro (Lovi Poe), a struggling medical student who lives in a boarding home run by Tatay Nanding (Jaime Fabregas), an elderly man who has the odd habit of burying fresh meat in a specific area of his lawn and communicating with his deceased son.
Mylene views everything in black and white, with logic always taking over her emotions. In addition to her financial difficulties, her one-year relationship with a scumbag and her mother's uncontrollable ranting about a "sister" she doesn't even know about have left her feeling resentful.
Mylene's closest friend Joanna (Empress Schuck) and her ex-boyfriend Paolo (Benjamin Alves) struggle to solve the mystery behind the paranormal happenings at the boarding home as doppelgangers start to haunt the building and kill its residents.

Third Eye (2014)
Third Eye is a 2014 Filipino horror film directed by Aloy Adlawan and stars Carla Abellana, Camille Prats, Ejay Falcon, and Denise Laurel. It was produced by Regal Entertainment.
The story follows Abellana's character, Mylene, who witnessed the grisly death of her neighbor when she was a young child. Later on, because of the incident, she discovers that she has the ability ability to see the dead.
Her grandmother chooses to close her third eye, protecting her for the time being from the horrors of seeing spirits. But with the death of her grandmother, Mylene's third eye reopens.
It is an ability that she must come to grips with, as she, in pursuit of her adulterous husband, inadvertently travels into dark, dangerous territory populated by a community of murderous practitioners of black magic.

Dilim (2014)
This horror-suspense movie follows the story of a nursing student named Maritess (Kylie Padilla) who gets plagued by inexplicable nightmares when she moves into a dormitory.
On a trip to Quiapo, a seer tells her that she is a conduit between the living and the dead and that ghosts are drawn to her because she's one of the few who can help them cross to the other side.
Later on, strange occurrences around the dorm where she's staying happen. She enlists another student to unravel the mystery of the dormitory.
Dilim is a Filipino horror film written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes. It was also released by Regal Entertainment and stars Kylie Padilla, Rayver Cruz, and Ella Cruz.

Haunted Mansion (2015)
Jun Lana's 2015 Horror Film, Haunted Mansion surely scared high school kids when they recalled the chilling story of spending a night in a retreat house.
The movie follows some high school students as they spend the night in a retreat home. When they discover the retreat house is haunted, they decide to go search for ghosts for fun, but they quickly learn that the rumors are true.
The movie received generally favorable reviews from critics who praised its cinematography, visual effects, production design, and musical score. Additionally lauded was the cast of the movie. It was the debut film of Janella Salvador who starred in the film alongside Marlo Mortel, Jerome Ponce, and Iza Calzado. among others.
It was also an official entry to the 41st Metro Manila Film Festival. You can watch the movie here.
I Love You to Death (2016)
How about some comedy-horror film?
I Love You to Death is about the "undying" love story of Tonton (Enchong Dee) and Gwen (Kiray Celis). They make a promise to each other that they will get married when they are adults. Like almost all love stories, this one begins with the two being separated, only to be reunited after a number of difficulties that try their relationship.
Gwen is unattractive in the eyes of her family and friends and appears to be unworthy of Tonton's unwavering love. Tonton, on the other hand, is figuratively immortal as he has been raised from the dead with the sole purpose of keeping his word to marry Gwen.

Tía Madré (2019)
If you wanted a mother-daughter terrifying story, this one's for you.
Tia Madre is a horror film told by a hyper-imaginative and clingy 10-year-old girl named Camille, whose mother, Emilia transforms into something more "sinister, violent, distant, and possibly not human" as the story goes by.
Living under one roof, the child learns that her mother loathes her when she calls her “Mama.” Despite this, she still expresses her love, believing that things will go back to the way they were. She tries cooking her favorite dish and give her hugs, but none of it seems to be making any difference.
The film is directed by Eve Baswel starring the late Cherie Gil alongside Jana Agoncillo.

Katok (2022)
Katok centers on the tale of a supposedly haunted house where caregiver Romina (Ara Mina), will tend to an elderly man who is portrayed by veteran award-winning actor Soliman Cruz. The first clue is that no one has spent much time in the house in recent years because they think it's haunted. To find out and to fulfill her job as a caregiver, Romina must knock three times before she enters the old man's room.
Apart from Ara Mina and Cruz, Katok also stars Yñigo Delen, Joyce Javier, and Mia Aquino. It is directed by Joven Tan.

Kuta (2022)
Kuta's plot begins with vloggers being invited to a private resort that is said to be haunted. Organizers later announce that whoever manages to capture a ghost on camera would win half a million pesos.
But the vloggers quickly understand that the whole thing is a scam. Their adventure starts when they flee the resort and find themselves in Mt. Banahaw's forested region.
The film was shot in the mystical Mount Banahaw which is located at the boundary of Laguna and Quezon Province.
Kuta is the first reality horror movie in the Philippines produced by ECL Multimedia Productions. The film stars Buboy Villar, Krissy Achino, Nico Locco, Renerich Ocon, Pearl Gonzales, and Jelai Andres.
