‘The Rocketeer’ reboot finally takes off at Disney Plus

A reboot of The Rocketeer is reportedly in the works at Disney Plus.

According to Deadline, David Oyelowo (Selma, Star Wars Rebels) will produce and possibly star in the upcoming sequel The Return of the Rocketeer. David's wife Jessica is also producing the project under their Yoruba Saxon production company with Ed Ricourt (Jessica Jones) attached to write the screenplay.

The sequel to the cult classic action-adventure film will reportedly have an all-new creative directive with Ricourt's story focusing on a retired Tuskegee airman who takes up the Rocketeer mantle.

First premiered in 1991, Walt Disney's film adaptation of Dave Steven's graphic novel follows the story of stunt pilot Cliff Secord (Bill Campbell) who stumbles upon a rocket-powered jetpack that allows him to become a high-flying masked hero.

Directed by Jumanji's Joe Johnston, the action-adventure film also starred Alan Arkin, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Sorvino, Timothy Dalton and Terry O'Quinn.
