Park Seo Joon to star in upcoming film 'Concrete Utopia'

Park Seo-Joon, known for his roles in Netflix Korean drama Itaewon Class and Oscar-winning film Parasite is set to star in a new blockbuster film.

Concrete Utopia is a disaster thriller directed by Um Tae-Hwa that tells the story of the aftermath of a devastating earthquake. The film will begin when the survivors gather at Hwang Goong Apartments, the only building left standing after a devastating earthquake in the heart of Seoul. 

Along with Park Seo-Joon, the film’s star-studded cast includes Park Bo-Young, Lee Byung-Hun, Kim Sun Young, Park Ji Hoo, and Kim Do Yoon. 

During a press conference held on June 21 for the upcoming movie, Park Seo-Joon expressed his admiration for co-star Lee Byung-Hun.  

When asked if Lee Byung-Hun takes 80 percent of the reason why he wanted to be part of the film the Itaewon Class star humorously said “Because the director is here, I think he deserves 60 percent of the credit.” 

Lottie Entertainment — the distributor of the film unveiled stills of Concrete Utopia showcasing the characters and their individual survival strategies. 

One of the main characters ‘Min Seong’ played by Park Seo-Joon shows compassion and commitment to defending his family while carefully evaluating the circumstances surrounding him. 

This riveting catastrophe movie tells a compelling story of survival after a terrible incident, setting the stage for an intense journey. 

Star Lee Byung-hun stated at the same press conference that the movie shows how the survivors interact with each other to overcome challenges hence it can be categorized as a human story or a dark comedy.  

The upcoming film offers a fresh adaptation amidst the post-disaster setting the characters struggle for their existence providing the viewers a glimpse into the unfolding story. 

Concrete Utopia is loosely based on the second part of the hit webtoon about an earthquake and its aftermath Joyful Outcast (Pleasant Neighbors), which depicts the struggle for life in a quake-devastated Seoul.

With its distinctive idea and expertly constructed narration, the movie distinguishes itself from other disaster movies and promises to give a remarkable viewing experience. 

Concrete Utopia is scheduled for a theatrical release on Aug. 9, 2023 with presales having been made in 152 countries including Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines.
