It's the start of a bad romance!

Warner Bros. Pictures has dropped the first trailer for the musical psychological thriller film Joker: Folie à Deux which has Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga playing the infamous crime couple Joker and Harley Quinn.

The two-minute video starts with Arthur Fleck, more known as Joker, being escorted out of his prison cell and getting a glimpse at fellow asylum inmate Harleen Quinzel, who would later be known as the villainess Harley Quinn.

Later scenes then show Arthur with Harleen before transitioning to them dancing on the streets with chaos seemingly ensuing around them.

After more scenes of them stirring trouble in Gotham City, the trailer ends with Harleen speaking to Arthur behind a prison window.

"I want to see the real you," she says as she draws a smiley face with lipstick on the glass wall, and Arthur adjusts his face so the lipstick aligns with his mouth, before showing off his signature smile.

Joker: Folie à Deux serves as a follow-up to the two-time Academy Award winning film Joker, which was released in 2019 and is an origin story for how the comic book villain turned to the life of crime after struggling as a stand-up comedian and part-time clown.

While the sequel has yet to give an official synopsis, fans can expect to see how the romance between Joker and Harley first started. It will also be a jukebox musical, with director Todd Philips sharing that it will feature plenty of song and dance numbers.

Joker: Folie à Deux opens in Philippine cinemas on Oct. 2.
