Fil-Am actress Eva Noblezada to headline 'The Great Gatsby' musical
Pinoy The Great Gatsby fans now have more reasons to look forward to the novel's Broadway adaptation as a Filipino-American theater actress is headlining the show.
Eva Noblezada is taking center stage in The Great Gatsby musical as Daisy Buchman, the object of Gatsby's love and the only female lead in the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic.
In the announcement released by Paper Mill Playhouse on July 25, Noblezada is introduced to play Daisy alongside Jay Gordon who will portray the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby.
The Great Gatsby musical is based on Fitzgerald's 1925 great American novel of the same title. The story chronicles Jay Gatsby and his obsession to reunite with Daisy. Apart from its eventful plot, the novel has become a cult favorite for its colorful depiction of New York in the Jazz Age.
Paper Mill Playhouse has yet to announce the rest of the musical's cast before showtime starts on Oct. 12 and ends on Nov. 12 this year. Tickets will be on sale beginning Aug. 14.
Noblezada is a 27-year-old actress and singer who was born to a Filipino father. She made her Broadway debut in 2017 as Kim in Miss Saigon. Her performance earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Tony Awards, which was followed by another one for her portrayal of Eurydice in Hadestown in 2019.
She ventured into film in 2019, playing the lead role of Rose Garcia in Yellow Rose. Her most recent stints include her portrayal of Tala in the film Easter Sunday alongside Fil-Am comedian Jo Koy.
