Casa Manila Museum closes temporarily starting Oct. 9
Casa Manila Museum in Intramuros has closed its doors to make way for "renovations and improvements," Intramuros Administration said in an advisory on social media.
"We look forward to welcoming everyone back once Casa Manila reopens its doors with renewed spaces and refreshed galleries," the advisory read.
The museum showcases the 19th-century lifestyle of a well-to-do Filipino family towards the end of the Spanish colonial period. Standing on the corner of Gen. Luna and Real Sts., the house features a facade modeled after an 1850s Binondo house.
Its entrance is a stone-paved passageway that leads to a patio. At the far-end of this open-air space are the stables, where horses and carriages were kept.
Inside are late-19th-century decor and gilded furniture sourced from Europe and China, following the practice of affluent Filipino families then. The elegance is made even more prominent with crystal chandeliers, painted walls, Chinese ceramics, and carved stonework and woodwork.
At the 2025 Intramuros Summer Festival in April, Casa Manila hosted a living museum event, where live actors dressed in 19th-century colonial attire demonstrated to visitors how a Filipino family would have spent their day in a house like Casa Manila. They played sungka in the sala, prepared meals in the kitchen, read a book by an open window, and wrote letters by hand on a hardwood desk as visitors walked past.

While Intramuros Administration, which manages Casa Manila, did not disclose a date for the museum's reopening, it assured the public that the popular "bahay na bato" would reopen once renovations are done.
