To say that life is not an easy path to cross is an understatement, and no one knows that more than these anime characters who have all experienced trials and tribulations in their lives that would have left any other weak-spirited person disheartened about moving forward.

And yet, they still rose above their tragic past and wrongful mistakes and changed themselves for the better, which makes them an inspiring role model for those who also want to start anew and transform themselves into someone who they want to be.

If you're in need of some daily dose of inspiration, check out these anime shows that will not only entertain you, but also get you motivated.

A Silent Voice

No person on Earth has lived their lives as a saint—we've all experienced committing mistakes that we are not so proud of. The same goes for high school student Shouya Ishida, who is undergoing a state of self-hatred due to his past actions, to the point where he wanted to end his own life. 

It all started during his elementary years, when he became classmates with a deaf girl named Shouko Nishimiya. Because of her disability, Shouko became the target of cruel bullying from her classmates, with Shouya serving as the ringleader.

However, when word of the bullying reached the ears of the principal, Shouya is thrown under the bus by his classmates and is blamed for everything that has happened, resulting in him getting ostracized all through out middle school while teachers turn a blind eye.

Following this, he becomes a despressed social outcast who is still haunted by his wrongdoings. Not wanting to continue living his life like this, Shouya seeks out Shouko to make amends, and their reunion leads to a heartwarming tale of forgiveness that teaches us that it's never too late to redeem yourself as long as you take the first step.

Kotoura-san

How would you feel when you were suddenly able to read other people's minds? For some, they may think of it as a cool and useful power to have, but for fifteen-year-old girl Haruka Kotoura, her gift is a curse. 

After accidentally blurting out other people's thoughts after she read them, she became an outcast from those around her. It even came to a point where her power led to her family being torn apart and she was abandoned by her own mother. Because of this traumatic incident, Haruka has chosen to close her heart around other people and distance herself from forming friendships with her peers, developing a rude demeanor and becoming cold as ice.

However, the stone brick wall she has caged herself was began to crumble the instant she met the easy-going and slightly perverted Yoshihisa Manabe. With his determination to befriend Haruka, he slowly but surely made her realize that her mind-reading abilities isn't as bad as she deems it to be. This leads Haruka to finally carve a path towards unapologetically accepting her gift.

Yuri!!! on Ice

It's feels like you've been punched in the gut whenever your strive your hardest for something you love and yet you come back home in tears. That's exactly what 23-year-old Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki after he placed dead last at an international figure skating competition. This devastating loss led him to face multiple defeats in other national competitions, ultimately blurring his passion for skating after just one season

With this, Yuri decided to throw in the towel and return to his hometown. However, after a video of him replicating the act of Russian figure skating champion Victor Nikiforov goes viral, he suddenly catches the attention of the man in question and is offered to be trained by him.

Being one of his biggest fans, Yuri takes up the offer and revives his skating career to make it back onto the world stage. Despite the tense competition, Yuri still faces the challenge head on and improves bit by bit, making him an inspiring protagonist who can teach you that you can still rise above your insecutities.

The Ancient Magus' Bride

Living most of her life being passed around by her relatives as no one wanted to have her in their home, it's only a matter of time before 15-year-old Chise Hatori fell into a bottomless pit of depression. In her desperation to have a place that she could call home, she willingly sells herself for for five million pounds at an auction to a tall masked gentleman.

The man then reveals himself to be Elias Ainsworth, an ancient mage who takes the form of a bipedal humanoid with the skull of a wolf and the horns of a goat. Now living with fairies and other weird and wonderful beings, Chise begins her life with Elias in his humble cottage.

At first, Chise places very little worth towards herself and would rather put other lives abover her own health. However, after experiencing kindness from her Elias, she eventually cultivates confidence in herself and believes in her value as a human being.

My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia has perhaps one of best examples of a zero to hero character in the form of Izuku Midoriya, a young man who aspires to become a famous hero in a society filled with people who possess a superpower called "Quirks." Despite Izuku's ambitious dream, fueled by his idolization of one of the world's greatest hero All Might, one very big problem stands in his way: he was born Quirkless.

Despite being brought to tears by this painful truth, Izuku still nourished a glimmer of hope that he could still become a hero. After a fateful encounter with the legendary All Might, he finally acquires a Quirk of his own and starts his journey of becoming the No. 1 hero through enrolling at U.A. High School, the most prestigious hero training academy. 

Despite having a rough time at first and having some timid moments, Izuku eventually matures into a more strong-willed and brave leader who never wavers in the face of danger and is always determined to fight for what is right, which makes him an ideal role model for those who are thinking of giving up in life.
